NOTICE OF VACANCY
11/20/25
In accordance with 24 V.S.A. § 961(a), the Selectboard of the Town of Richmond, VT hereby gives notice of a vacancy created by resignation in the office of Selectboard effective November 17, 2025.
The Selectboard, pursuant to 24 V.S.A. § 963, will make an appointment to fill this vacancy at its meeting on December 15, 2025. The person appointed will serve until a town election is had.
The Selectboard has set a due date for letters of interest to be appointed to the vacant seat to be received by the end of the day Wednesday, December 10, 2025. Letters of interest can be emailed to the Town Manager Josh Arneson at jarneson@richmondvt.gov; mailed to Josh Arneson, Richmond Town Manager, PO Box 285 Richmond, VT, 05477; or dropped off at the Richmond Town Center at 203 Bridge St. Richmond, VT 05477.
The letters of interest will be posted on the Richmond Town Website on December 11, 2025. The Selectboard will interview candidates at their December 15, 2025 meeting. Letters of support for candidates can be provided to the Town Manager in the ways stated above. Please see the Section 4 of the Code of Ethics for information on incompatibility of offices.
CITIZENS’ RIGHT TO PETITION FOR VOTE: Titles 17 V.S.A. § 2643 and 24 V.S.A. § 963 grant citizens the right to petition for a vote to replace the Selectboard’s appointee at a special town meeting. If a special town meeting is called, the newly elected town officer will remain in office for the balance of the unexpired term. If a special town meeting is not called, the Selectboard’s appointee will remain in office until the next annual town meeting.
To exercise this right, citizens must present a petition calling for an election for this office signed by five percent of the legal voters of the Town to the Town Clerk prior to the next annual Town Meeting.

Event Signage Request Form
This form is to be used for making requests to the Richmond Selectboard to display signs in the Town Right of Way which promote community events. If approved, the signs can be put up no more than two weeks prior to the event and need to be removed withing 48 hours after the event. Please note that Route 2/East Main St./West Main St. is a State Road, and the Richmond Selectboard does not have authority to approve signs in the Right of Way for this road. Town Staff will notify you when your request will be on the Selectboard agenda.

The Selectboard meets soon after Town Meeting each year to select a chair and other officers. The Selectboard is the town’s legislative body, enacting ordinances, regulations and policies, and is responsible for overall management of the town, including town property and personnel, annual planning for maintenance of town roads, and the annual town budget; and appointing most non-elected local officials. Selectboard members receive an annual stipend of $1,000.
