Voting Instructions

  • Every registered voter in Vermont receives their General Election ballot in the mail. Make sure to place your ballot in the designated Voted Ballot Envelope and sign it!

  • We recommend mailing your ballot by October 20 to allow enough time for it to reach your clerk

  • You can also deliver it to your clerk in person during business hours or put it in the secure ballot drop box in your town.

  • Ballots must be received by 7 P.M. on Election Day (11/3/2026) to be counted. After you’ve returned your ballot, you can track it online at vote.vermont.gov! You can see exactly when it was received and accepted.

  • If you choose to vote in person on Election Day, bring your ballot with you to your polling place. If the ballot you received in the mail was lost or destroyed, you will need to sign an Affidavit of No Ballot Cast. This protects election integrity by allowing your clerk to ensure one ballot is cast per voter.

Accessible Voting Information

If you need accommodations to assist you with voting, you may:

  • Contact your town clerk to request “JP Home Delivery” for your ballot. Please plan ahead and make this request as soon as you are able so that your town clerk can schedule two Justices of the Peace to deliver your ballot. They will also bring the ballot back to the polling place so that it can be placed in the ballot box and counted

  • Bring a person of your choice into the voting booth with you for assistance (not your employer or union representative)

  • Ask an election official for assistance with marking your ballot

  • Bring a magnifying glass or other devices to help you use the ballot.

  • Bring a list of candidates into the voting booth to help you.

  • Ask for another ballot if you make a mistake (maximum of three).

  • If you have questions, you can contact the Disability Rights Vermont Voter Hotline at 1-800-834-7890.

Vermont has Accessible Voting Machines available at every polling place. Voters with disabilities can vote privately and independently using this tablet-based system. You can watch a video to learn more about the accessible Voting Machine at https://tinyurl.com/AccessibleVotingVT.

Questions About Election Security?

Vermont has many steps for protecting the integrity of our elections. Our town clerks describe them in this video overview of election security procedures. Watch it here: https://tinyurl.com/vtsecureelection

Campaign Finance Information:

Vermont’s campaign finance law recognizes that transparency is vital to democracy. Vermonters deserve to know who is spending money to influence our elections. They deserve to know how candidates and committees spend campaign funds.

State law requires candidates for certain offices to register with the Secretary of State’s Campaign Finance System. The relevant offices are all non-federal statewide, general assembly, and county offices. Candidates must complete this registration prior to filing paperwork to appear on a Vermont primary or general election ballot.

You can access the Campaign Finance System here: https://campaignfinance.vermont.gov

Election Results:

Did you know that you can view real-time, unofficial results starting on election night? As clerks report the results, we collect them on our website. You can sort by specific races and see results at the statewide and town levels. View election results here: https://electionresults.vermont.gov
