Hello everyone, over the past few weeks I have received several requests for more information as to what types of funding could be available to help with repairs related to the flood, in particular whether or not there would be any money to help repair driveways. After researching the issue, I feel that I have some information that would be worth sharing.  FEMA has a wide range of programs to provide assistance. While FEMA may not directly cover all damages to your property there are loans available from the Small Business Administration (SBA) that could cover what your home owner’s insurance and FEMA wont. From what I can gather here are the steps you should take:

1.    Register your damage with Vermont 211

2.     Contact your home owner’s insurance and see what they will cover

3.     Register with FEMA at the Disaster Recovery Center in Waterbury
a.     While you can register online and over the phone, I am recommending people visit the Disaster Recovery Center in Waterbury in person. Unfortunately, there is no direct line to this office, you have to visit in person. The center is set up in Waterbury at the old National Guard Armory. The armory is located at 294 Armory Drive Waterbury Village Historic District. There are several FEMA representatives there who will be able to help sign you up for assistance and will help determine what type of FEMA assistance may be available to you. I went there myself to get the information I am sharing with you.

4.     Talk to a Small Business Administration representative
a.     There are representatives from the Small Business Administration located at the Disaster Recovery Center office in Waterbury. I would recommend going in person to speak with one of these representatives
b.    There are links to documents providing more information on some of the SBA program. They are attached below

This is the best available information I have at the time. If this changes I will be sure to do another updated post. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me at tmachia@ richmondvt.gov or by phone at 802-434-2430.
