Special Richmond Conservation Commission (RCC) Meeting

DRAFT minutes for special RCC meeting – these will be approved at the RCC meeting on May 13th.

On April 29th at 7:30 pm the Richmond Conservation Commission held a special meeting to consider an application to the Conservation Reserve Fund (CRF) to treat certain town ash trees that are infested with the introduced pest Emerald ash borer. The estimated cost of treatment is approximately $4800.

The trees selected for treatment are chosen based on the volunteer inventory of Richmond ash trees, whether they are on town land and whether they are iconic or situated in helpful places. Some have been removed. There are 19 trees that will be treated with emamectin benzoate.

This application was unanimously approved.

A second CRF application had been added to the agenda but it was deemed to have not been sufficiently warned. This application concerned the removal of two hazard trees from the town parking lot. The Commission discussed this application and expressed the opinion that if the trees are removed they should be replaced with native plants. It was agreed that the Richmond Library should be contacted about their pollinator planting project and Caitlin offered to contact Mary Houle for her thoughts.

There was an informal RCC field trip to see the trees and the application will be considered on the 13th.
