WATERBURY - RICHMOND - Interstate 89 - Southbound Resurfacing Project

TRAFFIC IMPACT:
Tuesday, September 15 from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Exit 10 Southbound On-Ramp will be closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles. Motorists to follow signed detour.
Thursday, September 17 from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. both Exit 10 Southbound Ramps will be closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles. Motorists to follow signed detour.
Motorist can also expect one-lane of travel between Exits 10 and 11 during all working hours listed below. Motorists are urged to use both lanes to the merge point and should anticipate slow moving travel and traveling on uneven lanes. Please don't follow construction vehicles into the work zone. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and fines will be doubled.
PROJECT UPDATE: Milled Exit 10 southbound ramps; Continued Paving, guardrail work and shoulder work to include berm removal.

The Vermont Agency of Transportation in conjunction with Frank W. Whitcomb Construction Corp. (FWW) is set to begin resurfacing of I-89 Southbound lanes from Mile Marker 63.00 (eight tenths of a mile south of Exit 10 interchange) in Waterbury to Mile Marker 78.6 (one-half mile north of Exit 11 interchange) in Richmond for a total project length of 15.6 miles. Additional areas of work include the on and off ramps associated with the Exit 10 (Waterbury) and Exit 11 (Richmond) interchanges. The completion date for this work is October 2026.
The construction work required to improve this roadway and ensure the safety of the traveling public will require one lane of traffic to be closed during construction activities. Motorists should anticipate significant traffic disruptions, particularly during the morning and afternoon peak hours. To minimize delays, motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternative routes. VTrans appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to enhance the road infrastructure for safer and more efficient travel.
The speed limit will be reduced to 55 MPH and will be strictly enforced as the safety of the workers along with the motorists is of the utmost importance. Motorists should be aware fines are doubled when speeding through a construction zone. We ask motorists to use extreme caution while traveling through the zone.
