Announcements: Public Alternatives Meeting Completed, Final Report Preparation
There are many types of active transportation, such as biking, walking, using a wheelchair, using a scooter, skateboarding, etc. The goal of this project is to design a path that is safe and easy to use for all ages and abilities. The planning project is moving forward to design a safe and comfortable active transportation connection from the Village Center to Route 117 (River Road).

The community “Alternatives” meeting was held on August 10th. Here are links to the August 10th meeting notes and to the meeting video (coming soon). The project team is evaluating input from that meeting, along with the first public meeting held on April 10th and two public surveys. The project team will work with Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission and the Richmond Transportation Committee to select a preferred alternative. A final report will be prepared and presented to the Selectboard by fall 2023.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The Richmond Western Gateway Scoping Study is a one-year project to investigate possible bicycle and pedestrian connections between Richmond Village center, elementary/middle school campus, Riverview Commons mobile home park and the exit 11
Park and Ride.

This is part of a multi-year Town effort to improve infrastructure (water, sewer, highways, and safe alternatives for bicycles and pedestrians) within the western gateway area, and to support areas already developed as well as those planned for growth by expanding bike
and pedestrian infrastructure and improving transit access.

Whether you live in or travel through that corridor and would like to see a safe path for all users (and thereby make safer roads for motorists), your views are important!

A public meeting was held April 10 to share information about the project, discuss the existing conditions in the study area, and hear from residents about their experiences walking and biking and ideas for improvements. Click here to see the consultant presentation at the April 10th meeting.

​​​​​​​This project is an update to the 2014 Route 2 Bicycle and Pedestrian Scoping Report and will incorporate recommendations from the Town of Richmond Bike, Walk, and Trails Plan​​​​​​​.
