There is a possibility that the traditional Town Meeting may be suspended In 2021 due to restrictions in place to slow the spread of COVID-19. The Vermont Legislature passed Act 162 which allows the Selectboard to vote to use Australian ballot (paper ballot) for any town meeting in 2021. This is currently under consideration by the Richmond Selectboard. If the Selectboard votes to move all Town Meeting items to Australian ballot, this would cancel the traditional Town Meeting format in 2021. This would also eliminate the opportunity to make amendments to the FY22 budget from the floor at Town Meeting.
Due to this possibility all Richmond residents are encouraged to attend special meetings of the Selectboard focused on the FY22 budget. A budget meeting will be held on December 14, and one or two more budget meetings will be scheduled for January. The meetings will be held virtually with both login and call in options to join. These meetings are an opportune time to provide feedback on the budget before it is finalized for a vote.
If you are unable to attend the budget meetings your feedback is alway welcome via email to Town Manager Josh Arneson at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 802-434-5170. The Selectboard members are also available to receive feedback on the budget. Their emails are listed here.
The next budget meeting is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 14 at 7pm. A link to the agenda (including login information) will be posted on this page on Friday, December 11.
